Xenia Frag Placement
Hey all i just got back from the LFS and came home with a good size xenia frag! $20 and it looked great, 1 1/2'' about. But where in my tank should i put it? Does it like low or high flow? Should i attach it to a rock with a rubber band or anything or just let it sit on its own?
Also i grabbed some DT's Plankton to feed it.
Any advise would be appreciated!
Thanks
Greg

it really doesn't need much...depending on your light put it in a medium flow area.
Mine really don't care and will grow anywhere they want.
can you post a pic of it?

it depends on many factors but if you keep your tank in good shape, it should grow fairly quickly.
They often like a "dirty" tank...a little high in phosphates...which is good for export.
I keep a good portion in my tank for that.
The rest i sell to the LFS.
Do you know what kind it is...Mine is Red Sea.
it pumps all the time.

It grows pretty fast. Mine does fine in any flow. Yes I use rubberband method to attach. Secure it enough to hold but not tear into the flesh. In good flow it will be attached in about a week.

Right now i left it on its little rock pedastal it came on....as this is my first frag i dont really know what to do now. Do i use a razor blade or something to get the xenia off of the small rock peice it came with, then attach it to a piece of liverock with a rubberband?

Or just wedge the plug somewhere in the rock. It will spread onto the live rock eventually. I just use scissors and cut them. Leave enough of the stalk and it will regro eventually. Oh yeah don't forget to smell your hands after the fragging, you'll find it........interesting.

My Nitrate and Phosphate levels are at 0 w/brand new test kits (salifert) and my xenia colony went from 2 tiny gross looking frags to larger than a dinner platter in approx. 5 months. It really just depends if they're happy or not

My pulsing Red Sea xenia are lovely, look like forests/trees - - they like medium flow and high light, I don't really target feed them at all, they grow like weeds no matter what my water conditions are - in fact, we sell them back to the LFS and get other corals/frags for them. They are really neat looking.....
