WTB UV sterilizer big enough for 240 total water volume...

Sorry if this is in the wrong spot...

anyone have a UV sterilizer big enough for my 180 FS???

I think my Foxface, Rupert, has ich ...in 4 years in this hobby I have NEVER had to deal with an outbreak of this... I guess my time has come. Taking him out is not an option at this poiint... I am going to have to try other means... going to feed him well using garlic and vitamins and keep the water as clean as i can... so if anyone has a UV big enough for 240 total water volume they want to sell... please let me know...preferably a hang on unit..

Thanks!

ok, lets see your levels. if he is sick then it is from stress most likely. lets work the problem. The UV you will need is not going to be cheap.

Oh man... I have the worst luck Bill!!! I saw a small speck on him the other day, but it went away... this morning he is sortof covered on both sides only on the top of his body with an ever so light covering of tiny salt-like particles. I am so upset! In 4 years in this hobby... I HAVE NEVER NEVER had to deal with an outbreak of this!!! I am just sick.

Most of the inexpensive UV devices are only good for water clarity. Your looking for a UV device which is capable of killing protozoan parasites while maintaining a water flow of about 4-5x your tank capacity.

Some of the better UV devices will come with instructions indicating the maximum setting for water clarity as well as a lower setting for killing parasites. Your looking for the lower setting and trying to match that flow rate with the 4/5X objective discussed above. Some of the mfg keep their instructions "on-line" and you may be able to google your answer .. otherwise a few phone calls should get you the approximate size/cost.

Hope this helps.

When my tang got ich 2 years ago I got a 15w UV and a seperate pump and used that I currently am not using either of them I think 500 gpm is what it was rated for for protozoan parasites my ich cleared up within a month or 2 of usng it like that and has never returned.
