Worried about lion

My volitan has gone on a hunger strike. He hasn't eaten in 2 weeks. He was super fat before so he is just now getting thin. I am gonna get some feeders and see if I can entice him with those. He has always been a good eater. I also notice someone has bit his antenna off above his eyes but don't know who. Fish and corals all are doing great. He is also restless non stop swimming back and forth. Normally he will chill in a rock cave but not lately. Suggestion?

Yeah but my qt is a 20 gallon. I think such a small tank for a large lion would stress him out more. I just wish I new what was wrong with him. He looks fine other than slightly thin and the antenna missing. If he had marks or something like ich it would make sense but there's nothing visable.

Jena is it like mad darts across the tank? to the point of almost hitting the glass or even hitting it

Sounds like more like a parisite(sp) to me. I wish I could help you on this Jena but I just don't know that much about the internal stuff. Maybe one of the mods will have an answer.

No he isnt hitting the glass. I did manage to get him to eat but I had to follow him around the tank with the shrimp right in front of his mouth. Eventually he would get ticked and chomp it down. I may move my freshwater fish in the 55 to the 20 and fill the 55 with saltwater and medicate him if he doesnt start getting better and acting like his old self.

fwiw, those antennae fall off normally in captive specimens as they reach adulthood - I don't know the mechanism of this or at what size it happens in the wild, but it's nothing to be alarmed about. good luck

Now he acts like he is trying to get out of the water. He is taking his head and swimming up out of the water. Gonna try and figure out how to load video to photo bucket and post a clip. I have good water movement and none of the other fish appear to be in distress I dont think it is an oxygen issue within the tank.

He seems better, more calm. I guess I just have to wait and see. Let's see if the video finally works. New at this so we'll see.

Okay set up the qt today will move him tomarrow and begin treatment. From reading wet web and also advised by the lfs I am going to treat him with Metronidazole by seachem. Any advice for catching him? Yes I know not to get stuck but can netting him harm him. The lfs used a container to catch him but I don't think that will work for me. Anyone know how long I should treat him and leave him in qt? Says every 2 days till symptoms disappear so does that mean put him back when he starts eating again? Suggestions appreciated.

yes a net can harm him. the antenaa rays can be fragile. try using a tupperware container or giant bag. Figure he will be in the QT tank for 2 weeks or so
