with a little help from my friends
i had a minor colapse while doing a WC today, lots of frags fell here and there. and im thinking of restacking most of my rock, i wanna start from the basic, but i dont wanna shock my tank either. is there a way to do this? can i just make the corals a little unhappy for about 30 minutes to an hour while i put most of them off to the side of the tank and restack real quickly? im trying to make the structure more secure. so i dont ever have to do it again, but i want to keep as many gaps and voids as possible too. so what i need is...... can everyone post pics of their rock work? how they stack to give me ideas? im a hands on kinda guy, so pictures focusing on your rock will really help me. please help a guy out!

I have done this before, I took out all my coral and put it in a rubbermaid to kick back, the larger peices got put off in a corner of the tank. Then I moved the rock all around until I came up with something I liked and put the corals back in.
The only thing I would be worried about is moving the sand around if you have it, especially if you have a dsb.
The pics you requested:
50
15 from old setup
15 from resetup

Thanks VWD! That pic is a little old,... I now have T5 lighting, and so far I love it. The LUX readings were far more than I expected, and I haven't even droped the bulbs down to where they should be yet. I think I will be able to get the same amount of light that I had with the 2*250 MH while only using 216W. Very cool!

in the first post in my blog, you can see the evolution of my tank (the various aquascaping attempts.
Might need to reload the page after you find the image to start it from the beginning again:

I used Aqua Stick Putty (the red kind) and it worked good for me. Don't know if anyone else has input on underwater epoxy or not. After it cures its pretty hard so you want to make sure the rocks where you really want it.

I don't know if this will help but John Tullock 's Saltware Aquariums book, suggest the hurrincane effect by using a power head to blast the coral and sift the substraight with a light swirling effect. I can't see this being much different then moving rock from one side of the tank to another.
I am in the middle of two new setups and have moved rock from one tank to another, so far I have had very little impact to any of the grasses, polops, fanners, and many of the other small creatures that I forget names on a daily basis.
A couple of days prior to any changes I have exchanged water between the tanks 2 to 3 litres at a time. to balance the water quality between tanks.
