Will this fuge setup work? (diagram)

Hey reefers,

my limited brain cannot figure out if this will work.

I am thinking of pumping the water from the sump into a refugium, and returning the fuge water to the main tank.

that will work, but you could also pump straight from the tank to the fuge, that way you can use a much smaller pump.

I believe you need a lot less flow in the fuge. You would be better off running a small pump just for the refugium I think.

If you can raise the fuge above the main tank a little, you can just haveit gravity feed back and do away with another pump.

looks ok but out of my experience, you might want to put ball valves on all the outlets and inlets... you might need to do some fine tuning

One Question, what's going to stop the fuge from emptying into the sump in case of a power outage?

It will only empty as much as the overflow will allow, an inch or so. Same principle as in the main tank.

Oh I see what you mean. The diagram is incorrect in that respect. The return tube will be higher than in the diagram and will have a u-tube with a hole in it. So it won't siphon.

What will stop it from backflowing out of the inlet pipe back into the sump going from the sump to the fuge? if you bring that up to the water level it will only backflow as much as the inlet pipe opening.

yea. same thing as the main tank. If i put a hole in the u-tube it will only siphon as far as the hole.
