Will this change the water chemistry?

I have a mangrove tree that hasn't come out in four months. So I thought I would buy a small clay pot and put the tree in peat moss. I know it's acidic but the pot will be small but so is the tank. 38 gal reef with deep sand bed.

Any thoughts here?

I would definitally not put peat moss in a SW tank,.. In FW tanks it is very effective at softeining the water and making it acidic for fish that like that sort of thing,.. I immagine that it will do the same thing in SW.

Also,.. peat moss releases allot of tannans which will make your water yellow.

I think you basically toss out all FW methodology and ideas when it comes to SW.

Eeh,.. in this case I disagree,.. Peat moss should have the same effect on water chem in a SW tank as a FW tank, it's just got to work allot harder, because the water it's trying to soften is much harder lol.

to clarify: I meant that what works best for a FW tank isnt usually good for a SW tank

Wow! Glad I asked! Won't do that. Any suggestions on what to put in the pot for soil?

i could be wrong but i think most people use mineral mud. Have a look around TRT and see what some of the others are doing if you haven't already done so
