i was wondering if livesand contained all the same stuff live rock had and if it was able to seed dead/base-rock?

it depends on what you mean by seed, and if the sand is direct from a tank vs in a bag from petco.

live rock carrys a majority of the coraline algae that you may need, vs just the bacteria that is in the sand. I think that is the biggest differnce.

Not much. If the sand is from an established tank or true live sand from ocean it will seed your liverock just as it works the other way around. If the rock was never live to begin with (ie cheap base rock) it will take several months to a year before you begin to get the same effect as true live rock. On the other hand good live rock can effectively seed a sandbed in a few weeks so IMO the biggest difference would be time rather than end results.

yousuredo - LR will carry a bio-diversity not matched by LS if it was cured and placed in an established tank. If it was just cured, then most hitchikers were killed and removed by then.
LS/LR will seed any new setup with bacteria. But so will water from a matured setup. In a mature tank bacteria (and parasites!) is everywhere.

What else do you have in the tank? I would say if all your levels are now normal, Ammonia, nitrite ...equal 0. you could start to add life slowly. Did your rock go through a cycle? Was it live when you put it in?

We did the cup of sand from one tank into another and it worked. The live sand in the bag is not the same as a cup of the LFS or a friends sand though.

So I have been up and running for 2 months and my baserock looks like it came from the dark side of the moon. I have CURED LR touching it...but its still pretty much black...
BTW>.YES>>>>ITS ALIVE!!!!
I WANT THAT RESULT....did you add anything to your tank like Calcium additives? I am VERY curious as to what you did....I will follow your lead "oh master" GRIN!
