Will a plate coral survive alright...
if a saddleback hosts it? Or will it irritate the coral's tentacles too much that it will retract and never come out?

I think most corals adjust. Although I would certainly have a BETTER idea if I could keep an anemone hosting clownfish ALIVE!!

I've heard of both happening,.. sometimes the coral adjusts, sometimes it doesn't. The best thing to do IMO is to watch the coral and see if it gets used to the fish.

if your talking about a montipora plate,i wouldnt let anything host in it or pick at it..its small polyps can be very weak & become brittle & die, then its dead.

If you are talking about a Fungia plate, small or large tenticle, I would say the clown has a good chance of killing it. The flesh will get driven into the plate coral's skeleton, which is sharp, and could cut up the flesh.

I agree that it may irritate the coral, to the point that the coral won't open, Like wiskey stated watch it,

Well...I'm not getting another anemone (never again). They're too hard to take care of and too expensive. The only reason for the question is because...my saddleback is playing rub-a-dub-dub with my flowerpot and that bothers me. I have to find a substitute for flowerpot (something more reslient). I fear that I may have to go in the direction of something fake or else I'll have to get rid of the saddleback.
Thanks guys.

Yeah my maroon is starting to host my bubble and is ticking it off. The bubble is only in this tank temporarirly tho so I am just keeping and eye on it as well.

Oh...it gets better! It's SOOOO picky about what it likes to host. If the tendrils aren't long enough for him to do his thing, he goes elsewhere. Even my hammerhead had retracted too much. Anyways, I found this old pic of him in his anemone. He's a typical clownfish.

Chili,
That's funny. Anyways, I was just visiting a LFS and they had this maroon clown that had to be like...7 inches in length. It rubbed up against mushrooms and xenias and plate corals and if I didn't know better it way too comfortable. It was actually bigger than the zebrasomas in that tank.
Man...for hardy little fish, I didn't realize they could be soooo destructive.
