Wierd algae - ID's needed
okay...time to cut back on the feedings and dial up the skimmer. hehehe
Looking for some help with Algae ID's:
First algae is this brown fuzzy stuff. Soft to the touch, very flexible, and kind of looks like Hair algae, only it's brown/rust colored, and appears to prefer the shade to the light.
Here's a shot of the infested area with the flash on:
and a closer shot of the side of the same rock. The wierd thing is, it's not growing on top where it's bright. But it's not growing on the bottom either (where it'd be dark). It seems to prefer the edge, or lightly shaded areas.
The left side of that same rock, hiding in the shade of my green slimer acro:

and then this mysterious algae that I SWEAR is a cross between cyno, corraline, and hair algae.
It's deep purple / dark violet it color. Very vivid shade of purple. Much like corraline, only a little darker. In NO WAY brown or green.
But seems to grow kind of like cyno. It grows like a skin...but looking very closly, does appear to have the vein-like growth of a fern or something. So I really don't think it's cyno (plus this tank's go serious flow...cyno doesn't seem likely).
Every so often it groups in a long thread...that blows along until it's connected the mass to some other part of the tank, where it attaches, and starts growing there.
any feedback would be appreciated:
a shot of the infested area:
and a closer shot of the base of one of the threads of this algae:

I'm following along because I have the same thing as the first post shots. I've had it for a long time but it never seems to spread much.

I have the same looking growth as well. I always just siphon it off the rocks when I do water changes, seems to help!

Skeety, are you coming to the Pig Roast? If so, bring a specimen in a jar with a lid...

sorry, can not remember the name of that stuff, but it is a pain. luckily for me it just went away, but you look more entrenched with it than i did. nothing i did really seem to help it go away.

no bubbles in mine. well..maybe one here or there, but they seem more like trapped air that got caught under the algae, then the usual O2 put-off bubbles you see with some algaes.
So I'd say an insignificant amount of bubbles.
I'll try to get better shots this evening.
I can't make it to the picnic....cause I SUCK! hahaha
Appreciate the interest guys, I'll try to get back to you with more info, later.

the good news is my just went away. unfortunately i can not remember at what time it did go away. if it was one of those mysterious one year things or if switching to BB did it. i had it before i went to Ireland, not on the new setup.
