Hi Everyone and thanks for the input for mylast couple questions. I have a friend who has this wierd brown stuff floating on the top of his tank. It is like a film and is easy to net off the top of the tank, but I would like to know what it is because at the same time the film appeared he lost 4 fish (a tang, 2 damsels and a clown). The tank is 240L, with a huge skimmer, powerheads and living rock and has been established for 2 months, there are only a couple corals, and fish stocking was light. Water changes are performed weekly (20L per week) The skimmer is run 12 hours a day, and the water parameters (at the time the brown stuff was there) were pH 7.9, NH3 0.1mg/L, NO2 0.8mg/L, NO3 20mg/L, specific gravity 1.028. I realise that these are all not quite where they should be at and I am certain that they are what caused the fish deaths, but I am just wondering whether the brown stuff, the water conditions, and the fish deaths are all related? Is the brown stuff algae?
Any ideas, comments, suggestions, whatever would be most appreciated.
