Why's it called a powerhead?

The subject pretty much says it all. I'm curious as to why they're called powerheads. I mean, to me, it seems that powerhead would be something you'd find for sale in the red light district, not at your local aquarium shop.

Can someone please shed some light on this for me? Thanks!

Well Paul I am glad you always bring such hard hitting questions to the table of The Reef Tank. What you really need to ask yourself is what u have really a PH. I would suggest that u dip the unit in the tank and insert the output into one of your nostrels. Then plug the unit in. Shortly thier after you will be able to answer your original question.

Hope it helps

Mike

But I like to pick flowers!

I'll try to guess...

Powerhead is a fancy version of motorhead, which in turn is an archaic term used for the business part of a motorized device, like an engine, vacuum cleaner, etc. The powerhead is where energy (from electricity, burning fuel...) is translated into rotary motion.

It used to be that small submersible pump motors had all sorts of add-ons to go with them (piping, filtration canisters, --certainly the impeller, etc ). Thus it sometimes made for convenience to refer to the set as a powerhead and accessories.

When people started buying just the powerhead, with an attached impeller of course,... well... there's a shorter term than, say, submersible pump motor with impeller.

Blumenpflücken während der Fahrt verboten!. Not even you, Horge

Partially translates to something about something being forbidden during the trip? Geez did I read that right??

Whats up with your sigline? Give it up here.

Thanks Mike, my sinuses needed that!

Horge, I'll take your answer. I am a little disappointed, though, because I thought you were going to break out into singing "Ace of Spades" for us . BTW, I sincerely hope all is well with you, my friend.

Ahh yes, the sig line. Fishinchick, you're on the right track. "Picking flowers during the ride is forbidden!" I've got it on a metal placard that I found the last time I was in Germany. I couldn't pass it up!

Paul.

Paul.

I wouldn't dishonor Lemmy like that, pal...

While we're on THAT subject...

I'm pretty ticked off at the delay in the Probot album release.
What's it been? Two years now? If it was all just some private metal ego-trip for Dave Grohl, I'm going stick a powerhead up HIS nose
