Who uses the LEAST amount of additives?
Hey guys, I?m confused about what additives (supplements) are really needed in a reef tank, so I wanted to ask you guys what you use? Please tell us what type of corals you have in the tank, how often and how big of a water change you do, and what brand salt you use>? If you have any other info on any supplements on their importance or if they suck don?t hesitate to say so! please list brand names! Thanks
I?ll start I have a 38 gallon: polyps, mushrooms, colt. I use ESV?s b-ionic 20 ml of each part every morning, aqua marines selcon in the food, and dt?s phytoplankton. The esv keeps my calcium and kh in check pretty good, I have to use a lot though. And the other two I don?t know if they?re any good or not? I just bought them to keep my corals and fish healthy and happy LoL!

My additives are
1) Top-off freshwater daily.
2) Kalk weekly (Kalk is cheaper, but two-part calcium boosters are theoretically better).
3) Fresh shrimp bits every couple of weeks or so.
4) Dark energy, focused every month.

Add calcium when needed.
top off water when needed
feed fish once a day at 4:30p.m.MST
Use Instant Ocean Salt
Do a 15% water change once a month/will be less as my tank matures.
That's it

Dyno,
For my softie and LPS tank:
1) 10% Instant Ocean water change every 2 weeks;
2) Kalkwasser drip for topoff water;
3) Daily feeding of fish: random alternation of variety of flake food; frozen brine; Formula One, Selcon. Occasional feeding of corals with frozen brine, Formula One, in a mix with Coral Heaven.
That's it!

Just to be fair about this "contest", Horge's "tanks" are actually just parts of the real coral reef in his neighborhood, fenced off with some hog wire!

Hi Dyno,
I do 10% water changes every other week. I dose B-Ionic ca buffer daily, and I feed DT's once or twice a week. I have softies (mostly leathers) and some SPS. All is doing well and growing fast.

I have quite a bit of corals in my 60g reef tank. I only use Reef Solution by Ecosystem and I add calcium when needed. That's it! Works fine for me.

Just curious as to if anybody uses carbonate buffers. I have been trying to use Kalk and carbonate (not at the same time). Should I ditch the carbonate and drip Kalk 24/7 in my top off water. It seems like that is what everyone else is doing. Anyways sorry to but in on the post, but I use Kalk and carbonate buffers and do water changes every 2-3 weeks using reef crystals salt mix. It seems to be some what effective I can't quite reach the levels I am looking for.
