Who has a "cube" tank?
Anyone have one here? I just started seeing them at our LFS and I am seriously considering moving my 180 reef into a smaller cube, 90 gal or less, and doing a FO in the 180. Seems like a nice compact way to do a reef, especially if you aren't looking at tangs that need the swimming space.

I love my 37 gallon Reef Ready Oceanic Cube tank, a 20 gallon tall tank fits great with room to spare in the stand, it has been a great starter saltwater tank. After doing a lot of thinking about the mysterious appeal for cube tanks, I think that I stumbled upon the answer why, I think that they are so appealing because of the fact that they look like a T.V. I think that we are so used to lookin at a cube shaped "box" already, that we are very pleased to be able to manipulate what is inside the "box" for once, kind of like being able to be in complete control over what is on T.V. What do you guys think?

Heh, hey if it is a cube it is a cube. As I kinda stated, the reasons I like the look are (A) it is only 2 feet (or 30" in some cases) long and doesnt take up as much wall space, (B) more depth of field, (C) I would think it takes less lighting and circulation because of the shortened length. Basically I am peeved because many of the fish I like are not reef safe, and to be honest I do not have an endless amount of corals, nor do I feel the need (or have the money) for endless amounts of corals. So Mr. Cube tank would be my reef while my 180 could house my non-reef safe fantasies .

For now, I,m playing with sumpless. The Mak 4 takes water direct from the tank and feeds the MR3 sitting on a shelf at the same height as the tank. The skimmer returns direct to the tank, behind some rock. No bubbles with a modification to the skimmer input.

I have to agree with you, the cubes are cool. I also have a 28 gal bowfront reef which I really like but if I were to set up a larger tank I'd make it a FOwLR - love those butterflys and angels...
Doug, that tank looks very nice
