White Tips On Colt Coral

Anyone have suggestions as to what causes spaggetti coral and nephthea coral that have the tips and ends that have white ends. The white spot on one of the ends has turned black on the nephthea. I don't think it looks anything like being bit on or anything. I thought maybe it was a lack of some food or something. Should I clip off the tip that turned black you think? If pictures will help, I may can get a snap and post it here. Any info or suggestions will be very helpful and appreciated. Thanks
