white things

I have some of these white things in my tank. They must have come from the LS we bought from another owners tank. It is about 1 1/2" long and looks like there is a body inside some fluff . I have a bunch more smaller ones, but this is the largest one. I pulled one out awhile back and it felt like a softened macaroni noodle inside a cotton ball. Some are in the sand and some are stuck on the sides of the tank. It also looks like I have a bunch of little tiny feather dusters in the sand and on the back wall of the tank.

it looks like Q-tip sponges. Harmless filter feeders. Also, any feather dusters are harmless as well. As far as I am aware of anyhow.

Hello again

I got my scraper tool out today and tried to see if the thing would move if I touched it. Well just the water moving around it caused a lot of the outer cottony like coating to go flying off in the water. I left it alone after some of the stuff went floating off. I don't know it it was dying or reproducing or what. It is about 1 1/2 to 2 inches in length. Should I try and see if all the coating will come off or just leave it alone. I'll probably see if I get a bunch more hatchlings on everything from them now first.

Geoff is right - they are tunicates. Harmless filter feeders. No worries
