White spots on my False Percula Clownfish

My clownfish has spots on his side and sometimes on his belly. They aren't there everyday and he seems to be eating fine and acting fine... but I'm worried.

Advice anyone?

Well it sounds like hes got ich, or some other parasite. When did you put him in the tank? If he was just introduced it will probably be ok, but if you have had him for a while then something is wrong. What are you feeding/how often? Are any tankmates bothering him? What is you water chemistry like? What size tank? Clowns are pretty hardy fish (after all, they are in the damsel family), so if you correct whatever the problem is, he should be able to ward off the parasites on his own.

Well I should have given you more info in the beginning... I have a 110 gallon tank and I've had the clownfish for about 2 weeks. I been feeding flake food once a day and live Brine once a day. I also have 2 4-stripe damsels and 3 yellow tails and all seem fine. I might also add that this has been going on for about a week. And I hate to say this out loud but my water is great... 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite and 6ppm Nitrate. It's so weird some days he has it and some days he doesn't.

Is it specks like salt, or spots like blotches?

With all those little nasty bast*%ds in there, I wouldnt be surprised if they wern't battle scars

Ok... now you've made me look even closer. It's not spots but I really wouldn't call it blotches either. It almost looks like it's damaged scales. Is that possible? And tonight it's only on one side about half-way back. Leave it to me to have a "strange" problem.

I've had him for about 2 weeks. And I just added 30lbs of Live Rock from Premium Aquatics a couple days ago.

And as a side note.... the rock from PA is awesome.

Well, you definitely have something going on. Doesn't sound like parasites, time line doesn't work. Does sound bacterial, possible fungal (but not likely).
Something has gotten under his skin. If you want, hit him up with a good antibiotic.

A big Reef Tank welcome poorgirl!!!!!!!!!!
If you've recently added more live rock, even the good stuff from PA you may be having a mini cycle, at anyrate the 6 ppm nitrate is fairly normal for such a new tank, hopefully the LR will start denitrifying soon. Tangs are like aquarium canaries once used in mines to detect poison gas or airless pockets. They are pretty sensitive to water quality and usually dont tolerate the effects of fairly new tanks yo yoing chemistry. Especially when in the company of such aggressive tank mates.
Good luck with it, hang in there
OOPS obviously I shouldnt be allowed near the keyboard till my 3 rd cup of coffee. I dont know why I mixed up tang and clown, but new tank and aggression issues still remain, sorry, Enjoy

Doug, thanks for the welcoming. I can thank my brother "Kinethesia" for getting my into this great adventure of SW. It's so awesome...

It's just so hard to be patient... but I'm trying. And don't tell anyone but I think I'm spending more time on my tank then anything else like work, housework, cooking, etc. You can't usually find me sittin in front of the tank.. just looking and having a cold one.

I just wanted to add some comments I think you've made to me but not posted here.

1) This has been going on since you got him about two weeks ago.

2) It seems to get better one day and worse the next.

I don't know myself, since I can't see it either, but it sounds bacterial or fungal to me.

Cool

Well, since I didn't have the facilities to quarantine the little guy, and after reading many archives about marine ich, I tried a couple things. I searched high and low where I live for garlic elixir/extract/juice with no luck. So, I went to the lfs and bought some Kick Ich brought it home and put it in. And then... it dawned on me! I have fresh garlic and a garlic press. Soooo.... I pressed some fresh garlic juice onto some frozen brine and fed it to the tank. And guess what?? I'm not sure from what 2 days of garlic or one dose of Kick Ich... it's going away and Mango (the clownfish) seems to be getting better. Hooray! And thanks for everyone's help!

Just a lil humor here... jorge may appreciate it..

Press fresh garlic into tank.. let marinate overnight... heat sauce pan to high temp and put in two pieces of butter... pull clown fish out by tail and lightly drege in flour... lay gently in pan and hold with tongs (he will squirm)... add finely diced shallots and some cracked pepper.. fry to a golden brown on both sides and serve on a bed of wild brown rice... serve with wine of choice...

Sorry couldn't resist.. the idea of fresh garlic just inspired it. Good job in the creativity though and I happy to hear he/she is doing well.
