white spots on fin are not ich ???

Okay I am perplexed.

My yellow tailed coris wrasse has been in quarantine for a month now.

I saw he was itching a few days after purchase and noticed some white spots on the body and one fin. So I elected the hyposalinity treatment. He stopped itching a few days later and has been in a specific gravity of .009 for 23 days now.

However...the spots on his fin never fell off. They are tiny white spots right at the base of his pectoral fin. I tried to take pics but he just moves too fast and pics are not coming out clear.

They have not gotten any bigger, there is no redness or fraying of the fins, and it does not appear to bother him.

Does anyone have any idea what these white spots might be? I would like to bring the specific gravity back up and put him in the main tank but I am afraid because I have no idea what these spots are?

Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!

My guess would be that since the spots haven't changed, gone away, gotten bigger, nada - that it's not ick or velvet. But also hypo is not doing anything for them either.

It could be parasites under the thin membrane of the fins, or just the light hitting a knuckle making it look like a bump.

dunno

Try bring him out of hypo and keep an eye on them.

No, they are not defined at all. I can barely see them except when the light reflects off of them real good. Ofcourse he never stops moving his fin so it is hard to get a GOOD LOOK...but sometimes it seems like it might even be colorless patchesof fin.... Then other times it seems like it might be raised up...it's really hard to tell.

I have seen ich, velvet, bacteria infections and lymphocystis and to me it looks like a patch of ich that just does not change.

If it was fungus/bacterial, something would have changed by now. Same with a parasite.

I think you're just seeing the light reflect off a knuckle.

the little joints in the rays in a fish's fins that would be knuckles if they walked.

We just call them knuckels. I think you're seeing the light reflect off of them.
