I wouldn't buy one sight unseen. The stock photos on Live Aquaria are taken of primo specimens. Unless you shop the divers den on LA it's a stock photo and not the actual specimen you will be receiving.

The other thing to be sure of is when purchasing wholesale (assuming what you meant since paying retail is normal) or ordering fish is that you get the fish that you want. Numerous fish go by different common names and it can be a disappointing if you think you are getting something special and an ordinary fish shows up. The powder brown tang is also refered to as a white face tang along with a few others.

they had powder browns on there also. they didnt have the medium that i wanted so i shelled out a couple more bucks to go for the xl. if it is too big or aggressive then i can sell it or trade it in at a shop. and yes, i meant wholesale prices.=)
you wouldnt believe the mark up on stuff. for example, an XL copperband butterfly was 15.99
now, i have no clue how healthy these fish are going to be, but they should be fine. i was just disappointed that they didnt have an achilles tang listed =(

Actually, I would believe the mark up on fish. However, there are many other factors to consider. How much of the shipping cost are you covering? A large fish can take up a whole box so the shipping can be steep for that one single fish. Sometimes the shipping is significantly more than the fish itself. The styrofoam box itself can cost about $10 from some wholesalers.

What if your fish arrives DOA? Is the store going to pay for it or will you still be expected to cover the cost? Wholesalers offer no refunds, even if an entire shipment shows up DOA.

The sizes are always a guessing game when it comes to ordering fish. That's part of the excitement when opening a new shipment.

How big is your tank? That's an 18" fish, so please make certain you have the ability to care for it long term.

The fish is going to be 7-8 inches. My tank is 5ft long but I'm upgrading to a 180 in the spring. If the fish arrives doa then the distributor refunds the cost. I ordered it through my friend that orders bulk a lot from the distributor, but he just wanted some angel fish they had and couldn't place an order for one fish so he gave me the opportunity to buy at a discount. My part of the shipping is going to be around 10-15.00

Yeah. He arrived today and is in my buddy's sump. I'm picking it up in the morning and will post pics. He said it looked nice and healthy but we'll see how it is when he gets back home.

picked him(or her) up today. i cannot get a good pic because it still hides a little when i come in the room. so far it has not picked on anything. my yellow tang has picked on the whiteface though, they had a tail battle earlier. also picked up a copperband that i am going to try and keep alive for once. it ate a little mysis earlier, about to try a little more.
