Holy Crap! its been so long since i visited the board...
3weeks ago I moved downtown detroit. This involved moving my 55 reef. It was a disaster... I lost my
powder brown tang, whom i've only had for like 2months. i hardly even knew him... I also lost a
royal gramma that i've had for like 4yrs. It was devastating. Just goes to show you, no matter what preparations you make, there always more to be made. I moved during the midwest heat streak. I set the bucket that contained both fish about 15feet from a running air conditioner and they sat there almost all day. bad bad bad, dont know what I was thinking.
Some good news, all corals survived the move. since I did move the tank, I was able to put down a 4" sand bed. The success I've had with this has been astounding! I've already got large patches of corallaine growing on the rocks and glass (near all the corallaine on the glass died). the corals are "puffed" up like i've never seen and the tank looks much much nicer in general. I used normal silica based sand because i couldn't find any Tropico in my area and LFS wanted like 40buxx per 20lb bag of sand. It costed me about 4.99 for 100pounds of the sand.
Well thats about all the fish news for now.
Holy Crap! Sorry about your disaster B.T. hopefully everything makes it. Remember though, corals are used to being exposed during lowtide. Keep them moist and theyll make it. Thats from "personal" experience, heheheh
