Have a 125 gallon,150 l.b.s live rock
had about 8 little hermits / have some other fish 2) wrasses / 1) tang / 1) gobie / snails / 2) cleaner shrimp and one brittle star real small / that was the tank. over the past two weeks i added 1) tabbaco basslett / 1) hawk fish / 1 Brittle star body is about the size of a 1/2 dollar and the legs are about 5'' long. It is that time of year. Thats a big tank with lots of room for them they could be on a rock that you can not see or just deep in the rock work.

what type of brittle star? i had a green brittle star, the legs were about 5" each, that I actually saw eat one of my hermits. My friend swears that it was his that got his watchmen goby. ive heard other stories about green brittle stars trying to get fish and eating snails. i havent heard though any horror stories other brittles, so if its green id do something, but i wouldn't suspect that of any other brittle.

FWIW.......I had a large brittle star.....brown.......eat crabs and pretty much just wreak havoc throughout the tank. Besides the tiny little starfish that live in little holes in the rocks i am committed to never having any starfish of any kind in my reef.

My green brittle star grew to about 10". At that size he would eat anything he was able to get an arm around. He loved turbo snails. I watched keep a tight wrap on one for two hours, until he was able to grab some flesh. Turbos zero green stars stars 8. I gave him to a friend with a lion tank only. He tangled only once with a 4 " lion.

Ok

the star is not a green star. i have 3 one brown serpant star / 1 large brittle :it seems in the same place every time i look : i target feed those two brine shimp. The last one is a small orange star it hangs on the glass. At night when the lunar lights are on i look and they seem to just hang around, not realy on the prowel. The hawk is a little agressive tward the wrasses and the basslett, only if they get two close after feedings. The two cleaner shrimp and the two red shrimp are fine. Will look for bigger hermits or just get other critters. Just love the stars they are cool.
Thanxs for your help.
