where can I find a 10G food grade tub
So, I am planning on cooking my rock 1/2 at a time. I need to know where I can find a food grade tub approx. 10 gallons. Does wal-mart sell anything like that? It can be even smaller, as I only have 45lbs.

Does it HAVE to be food grade? Why not just use a Rubbermaid container?

I always heard that food grade was the only type of container to use. Would I have to prep a rubbermaid container?

If you really have to have food grade then look for a restaurant supply place. There was a place called Smart and Final Iris down in SoCal and I got one tub there.
After reading a little, my big water change container is a hefty 33 gallon trash can.

you can get the cheapest piece of crap plastic container you want, no pesticides, but it doesnt have to be food grade IMO, if you put a 2x4 (or whatever scrap wood you have laying around) frame around it so it doesnt flex and burst.............
just an idea

Are they required to label if there is pesticides? I don't want to have any doubt; sorry if I seem a bit edgy
BTW I laughed when I imagined myself walking into my garage and seeing a 500 gallon tub bursting and washing me away. Strange, I know especially since I will only have a 10G tub.

I dont think very many actually have pesticides in them........
i have used all kinds of stuff in the past without issue. I DO rinse everything VERY VERY well
FWIW, i DID burst a 60 gallon a few months ago...........thankfully it was in my garage near the big door no less, and it was just cooking rock, not livestock........
It was one of those stupid things....the day before i remember looking at it and thinking it looked like it coould burst.....

Aha, so that explains your words of wisdom. Thanks for the advice. Now I think I'm prepared to take on the cooking.

Ive never done the bracing thing myself, i know of people who do that to their permament sumps............people who you w9ould NEVER guess to do that even. : ) I ended up buying two burly 75 gallons trash cans after the one broke.......but i had a considerable amount of rock and was planning more immediately after
I will offer this though.
Whatever container you end up using to cook with. Buy and/or make TWO of them. That way wehn you go to swish it once a week or more. You can simply set up a swishing assembly line, from one container to the next. throw 5-7 60% full 5 gallon buckets in between to swish and just go down the line swishing as violently as you can. Then you just go back and forth from container to container every time you swish.
Makes the whole game MUCH simpler than trying to put it back in the container its coming out of with a water change.......

well, I don't make my own water for sake of convenience, but I think I will for this project since I will obviously need a lot of it. If I were to fill that many buckets twice a week, it would get exspensive from the LFS. I'll go to the local wal-mart and get $1.50 per 5 gallons of RO/DI and then mix my own.

Ingenious, yet simple; I may have to borrow your idea.
