When/Where/What/Why CUC?

When to introduce CUC?

Where is a good source other than LFS?

What to get IYO?

Why?

I like my Cuc a few weeks after the ammonia and nitrite are gone and I am seeing diatoms. I like snails and hermits.... hermits will eat your snails now and then. I don't like turbos as they are bulldozers but others do like them. I like astreas but they flip over and die. I don't like any true crabs.

Did I ever tell you about the time Brasky went hunting? Well anyway, Brasky decides he's gonna hunt down all four members of the Banana Splits. He stalks and kills every one of them with a machete. They all beg for their lives, except Fleagul.

I have hermits and snails.. small turbos and Nassarius snails... as long as you feed them just like anything else in your tank the hermits wont eat the snails.. I would not put them in if I had to choose again. I also put them in about two months after filling with water.

I put in my CUC about a month in. Order from live acquaria. 1x brittle star, 1x serpent star, 2x pep shrimp, 10x nassarius snails, 10x astrea turbo snails, 10x cerith snails (these don't seem to do much, should have got 5x more of the other 2), 4x blue leg dwarf hermits (have not eaten any snails, can tell by the shells on them) and I think that was everything... this is a 55g

Live Aquaria is still running their build your own cleaner package special. If you order $60 worth then the overnight shipping is free. Some of the critters may cost a little bit more, but when you consider the free shipping it is a good deal. You also get their full warranty as well.

My LFS just talked me into 10 snails for my 26 gal tank. They are huge and now that I see them in the tank it seems like a serious case of overkill. I also have a cleaner shrimp and a peppermint and 5 hermits. Too much?

IMO.....I dont like turbo snails........sure they mow down algae....but they just poop it right back out. And turbo snails leave big presents all over your rocks, and will cause you to have to turkey baste your rocks. All I have in my 45......with no algae........1 turbo......75 nassarious snails.......1 cuke........1 pistol shrimp.....and probably 5-8 margarita snails. They do a great job. Just realize.......no matter how big your clean up crew is........they still poop. Which in turn means they are just turning over the wastes. They will mow down algae.......eat leftovers.....and stir your sand. but they will not clean your tank. The waste is still in your water.

Turbo snails are very effective bulldozers. If your corals are not attached to the rock well, they will be knocked down where you don't want them to be.
