Whats wrong w/ this fish?

Here is a picture of the clown in my 5 gl. The tank has been set up for over 4 yrs and this was the only fish, added about 2 weeks after set-up. This mark on its' side started an elevated spot about a week ago, now it's a lot worse, plus it is around the mouth. There have been no changes in the tank for about 3 months (after Christmas I moved some mushrooms in from my 75.) What is happening? Is this treatable? If the fish dies, can I get a new one or do I need to wait?

Could he have gotten caught in the rocks? Looks like a crush wound.

My first thought was abrasion that got infected. But it going around the mouth makes me think velvet or fungus. Are the any weird behavioral things going on?

Not really sure, it does seem a little more listless. I can't tell if the breathing has changed at all, it does also seem to be hiding more in the frogspawn. It does still race out to eat. I thought it got hurt when I first saw the spot last week, but it looks a lot worse now.

I suggest you post your pic and question over at RC disease forum ... someone had similar problem in the last month or so and the "answer" wasn't the std bacterial problem/solution one would normally expect. Sorry I can't remember what the specific answer was.

My pseudochromis had that same wound this week. The first day he was breathing hard and taking a knee. The next day he was mia and I thought for sure he was done. The third day he was hiding under rocks and the forth day he was out and about and eating. He still has a faint mark but is back to his normal self. I never figured out if he was stung, bit or if it was a self inflicted wound due to a jump into a reflector/canopy

I had a clown do the same thing. Used the mela to help it heal, which it did. Good luck.

Yeah melafix works good.....if you have a skimmer turn it off! Didn't bother corals or inverts either. Follow the directions for sure.

I would take another view of Melafix ... if your fish is sick enough for medication .. put it in a the QT an treat with a real antibiotic. Melafix may have some nominal benefit .. but nominal is definitely the operative word.
