The lady who I buy my fish from was tellin me that my tank shouldnt have to go thro the cycle process even if I am redoing it right from start because i have already cured live rock... She also said I shouldnt get rid of all my sand just some off the bad lookin stuff because I do have star fish lookin things in it??? What do you guys think???? I wont be puttin corals into it for a while but would liek to get a few fish in there...but still doesnt seem right to me about not cycle but then again i am still learning haha....

If your rock is already cured and in a healthy reef, and you cna move it without letting it go dry and can keep it in circualted water to temp she is right.....

At least right on the no cycle thing. I strngly disagree with the not replacing the sand thing though. Whenever you have an easy opportunity to replace sand, especially sand that is old and or has any issues at all, you should take it. Do not take the unecessary risk or expense of buying live sand. Start fresh with new dry sand. It will become live soon enough on its own, and you will know that it is fresh and good for the long haul.

as long as you keep the rocks oriented in the same way they were in the old aquascaping you should not have much of a cycle. if you accidentally flip over some of the rocks than you could end up killing some of the organisms and causing a small cycle.

Yeah I took all the live rock out and its in rubbermaid totes with power heads and a heater until the tank is cleaned right out and i have a better background and this glue/water stuff (dunno what it is but it brightens up ur background so i have been told) she also suggested that i put all new sand (i have got new dry sand) in and the just take some of the old stuff and put in a nylon sock and hang it in the tank...??? i want to replace it all cuz i personally think my sand looks really nasty right now anyways....

i say go with saftey first... you will still get at least a small cycle. until amm and nitrite are undetectable don't add anything.

still do water test's..and add non-expensive fish.& snails. if the water elements stay stable where there supposed to be..your tank should be fine.
