Whats the longest a new fish added has stayed in the exact same spot for you??

Just curious. Ive got a fairly large scribbled rabbitfish that has been in my tank for 3.5 days now. When i firt put him in the tank he proceeded to run into the wall at mach 10, and then hide under the reef. The way i lift my rock I can see him plain and day and he appears fine...but he hasnt moved. I moved a big rock above him so i could poke him.....he seemed healthy and quickly darted a foot away, only to return a minute later.

3.5 days now and is still there in the same spot treading water.

????

weird. I think hes got drain bramage.

I put a newly arrived blue throat trigger in one of our tanks and he lay on the bottom for 3 days. The morning after he arrived, I thought he was dead so I went to remove him - but I could have sworn his eye moved, to watch me.

I stepped back, watched, nothing - ah, wishful thinking I figured, so I went to remove him again, and his eye moved again.

Stepped back again - again no movement - I couldn't even see him breathing. Third time - eye moved again.

So I stepped back, waited - still nothing, so I tapped on the glass and his tail flinched Playing possum!

He stayed like that for 3 days. The female in the same tank swam around, ate - behaved normally.

By the end of the first full day I had to put a sign on the tank that said, "I'm NOT dead" because people were driving me nuts telling me about the deaddie I had in the bottom of his tank

After 3 days, he got up and moved around, he liked the girlfriend I got him and they'd sleep together under one of the tank decorations. Sold them as a pair where they are living happily ever after.

Thanks Jenn......i really DO feel he is fine. His breathing looks normal, etc etc....

Ive just NEVER seen a fish behave like that.

Related question for you Jenn, as youve dumped more fish into tanks than most........lol......have you ever had a fish kill himself by running into the wall REALLY hard in the first .5 seconds of being in the tank??

Hmmm can't say as I have - but I have had some do it. I have had a yellow tang have a fit and die after being scooped up in a specimen cup. It's happened more than once. It happened to me once, and it happened to my service technician. She caught the fish, put it in the bag and it promptly died. She was horrified.

I imagine if they plow head-on just the right way it can knock them out or even kill them

I had a huge fat naso die from stress once too - we were breaking down a customer's tank - they were moving and we were going to sell their setup for them. Packed them up just like we always do, and in the hour or so it took to get from their home to our shop, it just died. Sad - it was a sweet fish -fat and happy and had been for a few years. I think the stress of moving it out of its environment and into a big bag of water and into a box, just did it in.

It happens.

That's most unusual. They are often very high-strung but usually they come around after being neurotic for a bit.

ive had a freshwater fish ram into the glass and knock it self out, (i guess it was knocked out anyway) it layed there for about 30 minutes or so on its back, looked dead, didnt move or anything, after a while, it finally rolled back over and slowly kicked around the tank a bit.

Well hubby came home with a diamond spotted goby. No way was he going in the 90 so dropped him in the pod with a hood. He is no where to be found so I think it jumped in the filter compartment. I feel to bad to mess with, I only got up long enough to take my medicine and get some more sprite. Pics tomarrow of him and the clown tang if I find the goby.

I hadda freshwater bala shark who woek me up once, thrashing around in the tank. He then went straight for the glass and hit it head on. Died instantly.

He'd been in the tank for a few weeks. His brothers were installed at the same time, they lived for 5 more years.

Well, hes poking about this morning. Whenever i approach the tank he darts back to his spot, but he looks healthy and moving.

I want to get a good pic of him as he is as bright and defined of a color as ive ever seen in a scribbled rabbit.

He is swimming at a slight angle. I think he knocked the crap out of himself.

In looking at the situation a little more. I noticed that the spot he hit just happened to be this spot on the wall that i scraped free of coralline to take a pic the other day. The rest of the wall is solid and you cant see through even a little bit. I think he saw it as an opening and thats why he hit it so hard when i threw him in the tank.
