Whats required for a FO tank? No more reef?
I am thinking about dumping the reef idea. I finally got rid of my algae problems nad the corals are growing slow. I have no fish in the tank and since its a small 3ft 58G tank I am limited on the fish I can have. I have not found any fish that I can keep in a reef that is that nice. Damsels and clowns are the only thing I can find that will work and swim around in a 58G reef with no sand.
So I am thinking of maybe selling off the corals/rock/reactors/metal halide and going with a FO.
What is actually required for a FO? I have the skimmer, top off, lights, heater, fans. Do I need a wet dry filter? UV filter? Anything else?

Ahh, dont give up now. The algaes gone, so now you can actually enjoy your reef. Also, as far as fish, there are all kinds you can get that are reef safe and dont need sand.

The only thing I can see are damsels, clowns, some wrasses.
The dottybacks, psudochromis hide and rarely come out

ya giving up is the last thing you want to do. because in a year of fish only you will want a reef.

Tangs, dwarf angels, gobies, blennies, some hawkfish (if you don't have shrimp), crabs of all kinds, starfish, etc. Just some ideas! I hate to see you give up, the hardest part of the reef setup is over....

Tank is too small for tangs. Angels go after the SPS corals polyps, gobies, blenies usualy need sand.
I just cant find anythign I like thats reef safe or can fit in a 3ft tank.

You could get a Bi-color blenny.. they don't need sand.. just rock to munch and perch on. Also, if you don't have any shrimps or crabs a flame hawk might be fun.. I loved mine.. or a six/four line wrasse (not with the flame hawk - instead of). They cruise the tank all day long. fun to watch..

I think with some seascaping and some color to the tank it would look great....And I have seen small yellow tangs in 55 gallon tanks thrive... so don't give up on a reef tank....Just be a little more creative with the seascaping a place for the fish can hide and take some of the enviroment stress off....

I woud say no to the butterfly but the rest work great. if you don't have anything but coral you could look at doing a dwarf lion too. look into the dwarf angels many of them are ok with coral.
