What's happening to my sediment?

I'm not terribly worried yet but... my sediment is starting to resemble toasted marshmallows? Now the tank has only been running for about 27 days now so I'm guessing this is just part of the amonia/nitrite cycle and I'm getting algae growth or something. The tank currently has only some damsal's and a tomato clown and is using regular LO lighting. I had just started using a timer on my lights in anticaption of getting better lighting and some live rock later this month (the lights are set to run for about 12 hours a day). Now this toasted marshmallow look isn't covering all of my sediment but about half of it.

So does anyone know what this is and if I should be concerned? I've been trying to look thru the archives to find something talking about this and couldn't find anything that I was sure was about the same thing that is going on in my tank. Thanks for any help anyone can provide =)
