Not that it is bad , but in the long run better....
by having the LR raised off of the substrate you allow for the water to move any ditirous out fromunder the LR and not casuing the lovly algae blooms or other problems, also by doing this if you have any tunneling buddies in the tank you help make sure you dont have any cave in's and loss of life..

I'm going to do mine tomorrow, so I will let you know, but I intend to use 3" pvc and like the pic drill holes in it.
