what will happen if i keep only LR

i was just wonder how long live rock would keep in a tank withuot ever adding anything.
My idea is to buy a bunch of live rock (approx.500lbs put it in a 200 gal tank)never do anything else to the tank ,just let grow whatever wcomes with the rock

Don't forget, as the live rock "grows" you will still have to check Alk, add Ca, etc.

I did this with my 55 for almost a year. I found it rather interesting if not overly exciting.

Also, kind of weird! You grew some things that no one knows what they are to this day.
LOL

That much LR would probably sustain itself just fine, especially with a DSB. If it turned out that you had some larger crustaeopredators, you might want to feed them but other than water changes and attention to Ca and Alk, it should just simmer along.
I do think such an expensive rock garden would be much more interesting with some coral and fish though.

It resulted in coralline growth like nobody's seen before. I find the rock pretty interesting actually. I'd rather have those critters and no fish than fish only....

Octopus,
Why so much rock in the 46? It would seem that much would fill the entire tank.
