Just throw a Sequence Dart on the thing. Its only rated at 3200 GPH. Just kidding. I wouldn't use the Rios they have a bad reputation.

Throw all the rios in the garbage, I had one meltdown on me in water storage, one short out and almost electrocute me ( thank god I had a GFCI), and one just crap out on me while I was on vacation which killed all the fish in my nano cube.

Are You using a skimmer in the sump? If so make sure that you dont run more water through the sump than the skimmer can filter.

I dont like mag drive pumps because they rust up sometimes, I use quiet one and eheim pumps and never had a problem ( except the "Quiet ones" arent always that quiet, but the work great)

like ive said at the top of this thread.. ive been using rio's for over 3 years and bnever had any problems with them..the rio 1200 that im using came off my 55g reef when i had a sump with nitrate balls, lol (bio-balls)..its still working like a charm ....on my 180g im using a mag 24. had it over a year so far, no signs of rust... dude!!! i think you have bad luck with rios and mags, lol. notttt meeeeeeee..im also using a seaclone 100 for my 10gsump to my 10g reef...its recommended for up to 90 gallons are so.. so i should be fine.. i dont need one of them fancy pantcy skimmers..its just a simple 10g tank

Phil,
i dont use Rio's i have ahad a problem with them myself. but on my 10 gallon nano and ten gallon sump i use a mag 5, the mag 3 was not enough at all. not sure what the rio to mag interchange is , but you will want something closer to a mag 5, the mag 7 will drain the sump too fast.

ive ran a couple rios, they were the ul listed ones and i never had a problem, but it was always in the back of my mind though the problems ive heard with them. so with my new tank i wanted a mag-drive... not even 3 months later theres rust on the screws the next pump i buy will be an eheim, one of the few pumps u never hear complaints about.
