What should I tell the 'tank sitter'?
I am going on vacation the beginning of next week. I had the training course with my sitter last night. Showed him feeding the fish and anemone, water levels, lights are on a timer, check the temp.... what else should I put on his to-do list? He has a FW tank and knows how to use a test kit, should I have him test anything. Just a little nervous. I know I have to be forgetting something. Any suggestions?
Thanks for settling my nerves!

I would keep it as simple as possible. Depending on how long you are going to be gone, you might want to stick to feeding just the fish. The anemone should be fine. When I leave for vacation, I created a manual for my sitter, but all they really need to know is what to feed the fish. The other stuff in the manual is for when there is a disaster (knock... knock.... knock.... knock....) And have a backup person in the event your primary sitter is confused (or dazed from staring at the tank too long).

The only other thing that I can think of is to try to find a local member or friend or LFS that they can call if they have any questions, a lot of times a knowledgable person can fix many problems over the phone or on line. Also have fun and don't worry about the tank.

Give him the address to this site. If he has any problems, we can talk him through them.
Have a great trip!

Other than checking on the tank for mechanical failures (pumps & heater!!) the main thing is topoff to keep salinity levels consistent. As reefcam said, keep it as simple as possible but tell him what to watch out for. Emphasize feeding little as the most common error is to overfeed.
The big danger is always power outages or some failure that stops the tank's circulation and oxygenation.
Good luck and enjoy your vacation.

You can have your sitter call me if any questions. I think I remember you said you dose Kalk right? Did you show the sitter how to do that?

My buddy is only coming over twice. Should I have him dose those days? I will be gone for 6 days. I usually dose about 5 nights a week.
Hey Chewie- sent you a PM. Thanks!
I am going to worry until I sit down at that blackjack table and get that first drink in me!!
Thanks everyone!

Do you have an auto- topoff system? That should simplify things a lot.
