what should I do with all my crushed coral.

I am getting real close to setting up my tank. I have a good idea how my tank will all come together. One thing I would like to ask is what should I do with all my crushed coral. I have so much!!! I had 5 tanks set up at one point. I must have over 400 lbs of cc. Is there any use I can put it to? I know guys think it makes a bad substrate. Could I mix it with my live rock in my refuge tank? If I remember well cc helped buffer the water very well. Also, doesn't micro algae grow like crazy om cc? I hate to toss so much cc out.

I am using a 30" tall freshwater filter to make a chamber to put crushed coral in loosely. The idea is when the coral bang togeher and give off calcium. I have taken tnk sample and grind up a tea spoon of coral and let it swish around in the back filter. So far over 5 days the aver ph and when from 8.1 to 8.2 its a noticable increase just waiting to see how long before it stablizes. So to answer your question if you are going to do Rots, Brine, Mysis you can use all that extra CC to maintain the PH in feeder tanks (i.e. in 100 micron bags) and then toss it when you are done.

It makes for nice landscaping material around your bushes after you rinse it off........

Fly guy You are not joking right. That won't mess with the soil's Ph. That would work! Or around the pool .

You could cultivate it into Live Sand....create a sump and use that as substrate, then after a couple of months (perhaps seed with some Garf Grunge) Sell it to the LFS or fellow Aquarists (or trade)...then fill it back up with more of your overage. Sort of like propagating corals to beef up your own stock (make the hobby pay its own way!)

as long as it is only CC and there are no shells in it you could just stick it in a calcium reactor after you rinse it off.

I wouldnt use it in a flowerbed or anything........but i think it would be fine around bushes or trees

Youve got 400 lbs of the stuff, i think it could make for some great aesthetics around a reefers house. : )

ebay sound good half price . I wish that marine epoxy and compression would work on making lr. I could come up with some very nice molds.
