What red bugs can do,.. Pic.
There is a thread here describing red bugs, what they do, and how to prevent and get rid of them.
http://thereeftank.com/forums/showth...056#post978056
But I wanted to post the pic of the most dramatically effected coral I had here for more people to see.
Before red bugs:
During Red bugs, right before I decided I NEED to treat immediatally:
2 months after the first treatment for red bugs:
As you can see, Red Bugs can have a signifigant effect on some SPS coral, I firmly beleive that if I hadn't treated I would have lost it.

Looks like there were some red bugs present in that first pic too. It is amazing the difference it can make on some corals, like night and day!

Interseptor is the method for treatment I used,.. it's a dog heartworm medication, but the anoying part is it's by percription only, so you have to find a cool vet,... or somebody else who did.

That coral now looks beautiful!
Can you treat the tank, say every 6 mos. just to keep them away?

You could but it wipes out your pod population and kills most small crabs and some shrimp. Better to just do a 6 hour treatment on al incoming corals and you should be fine. I believe it was determined that they are live bearers so there are no egg to deal with in qt.

Thanks I was quite shocked after seeing how badly it effected some of my corals, especially after I read from time to time that some people refuse to treat.

There may have been a bug or two in the first pic,.. I think that pic was taken about 3 weeks before I discovered the bugs,... the decline in coral health was slow, but looking at the pics,... Like you said, night and day.

Thanks Viv You could,.. but this treatment will wipe out all your crabs, shrimp, and Pods,.. so you really wouldn't want to unless you see the bugs on your corals.
