Question

What kind of light does a Gold Crown Coral Like?

Hi all,

I have a Gold Crown Leather Coral (Toadstool) and I have noticed that in the morning when the main lights turn on, the column of the Coral sort-of shrinks down toward the rock it is on. All of the polyps are fully extended, but I was thinking that maybe it likes less lights that go on.

I wanted to get some more learned opinions than mine.

I found this pic on another post that looks just like it (minus the clown ):

I hope this helps.

Thank you,

Steven

Steven,
Toadstools do well under a wide range of lighting and it may be a case where you might need to move the toad up and down a few times to see where this individual likes your lighting the best. How long has this one been in your tank?

Hey Pegasis!

IMHO, it would probably be best to wait another couple of weeks. My toadstool pouted for about a week and didn't open its polyps. One question: does it noticably shrink when the lights come on, or does it look shrunk up at night also? Mine will shrink a bit at night, and take about an hour or so to open fully and expand the stalk.

Sorry for the rambling...need my coffee

Hope that helps!

It seems that it's stalk shrinks a bit at night. The polyps are fully extended all of the time. I guess it will take some time for it to get used to the new tank. I'll keep watching it.
