What is your technique for feeding a serpent star?

And what exactly to you feed it. Do you take something like a silverside or piece of shrimp and 'hand' it to him? I'm still learning how to make a 'mush' that doesn't just get sprayed all over the place and fall to the sand bed to just get pushed around. I will be getting this star tonight. If you just hand him the food, do you give it to his arm or his disc? Thanks.

I generally feed small pieces of raw shrimp. Don't worry - he'll "smell" it and find it. I usually use tweezers (because I'm short and can't reach the bottom of the tank) but IME, serpent and brittle stars are pretty greedy.

Mine stays hidden in the rocks most of the time. If he's hungry he will come out at feeding time when he smells food. I use tongs and hand him a freeze dried shrimp. I just touch an arm with it and he takes over from there.

The "puree" mix is more for the corals and fish. The serpent and brittle stars need a "hunK" of something. The best is shrimp. Buy a cheap bag of raw frozen shrimp at the grocery store and thaw one out once a week.

I feed mine with a feeding stick. It's really just a long piece of stiff air tubing with one end bent a little. Hold it near him and he will pounce on it.

usually I feed my brine shrimp pellets. He comes out as soon as the food hits the water. He will latch on to the pellets once they fall, or even on to the flake food when I put it in and move it to his mouth. I occasionally feed frozen brine aswell. I just let it drop in...if I don't think he is getting enough then I place it on his arm, or I pick him up and he gets it out of my hand.
