What is the best way to Transfer Sand?

I want to reuse my 8 month old sandbed from my 55g tank for the new tank.
(Should be ok since its not too old right?)

Is there a best way of doing the transfer over?

I imagine one would want to sift the sand for any large particles right?
Any other good practices?

The reason I want to reuse the sand is that all the silicates and phosphates are 0. It took 6 months for the tank to get there and all the hair algae to stop. Now its crystal clear, so I don't want to have to basically restart that with brand new sand.

my suggestion would be to gravel vac the sand bed as you drain the water. that should remove enough of the junk. i use a large fish catching net as a shovel. good luck!

how deep is the sand? id imagine your testing 0 phosphates because the sand is binding them. if it is caco3 based, it is definitely binding po4. id suggest starting with clean, new sand. if you use a caco3 based sand, you shouldn't have to worry about silicates, either.
