What is my yellow watchman goby doing??

Hi!

I've only had this goby for about a week now...and he's always hung out down on the sand...for the past hour now he's been swimming near the surface of the tank. He's swimming pretty strong, so I don't think he's dying, but I can't be sure. I know some gobys are jumpers...I have a hood so this shouldn't be a problem. Hopefully he just gets tired and goes back down, but I was wondering if anyone else's goby has done this or what this could be a sign of...and if it is a sign that he's dying, is there anything I can do!

Thanks!

Relaxing?! He's working really hard to relax! I thought he was relaxing when he was sitting on the sand

.... he's still swimming up there

I have had my gobie do the same thing.. I have a fully encased hood so he is unable to jump but your not the only one who has a spazed out gobie.

Did the lights just come on? Is there any new additions to the tank?

He was the new addition

I did turn the lights on a couple of hours ago...and I fed him and the clown shortly after (they're all that's in there right now, besides cuc, tank has been up ~2 mos).

It's a relief to know he's just a spazz and not trying to kill himself (since I have a hood).

Well it's a relief to know he's not dying then...I thought he might swim until he got tired and then float to the top and get sucked out the overflow
He was under a rock at the LFS

Yeah, I think he is just checking out his territory. It looks odd for him to be at the top of the tank, but in the ocean it would only be a foot off the bottom - which would only be enough to survey the immediate vicinity for rivals, predators etc.

Well I went to the gym, came home, and he was back on the sand! Then I took his picture, started this post....and he went back up to swim ...at least he got a little rest. He's a pretty cool fish.

My pink spotted swims up like that daily. 90% of the time he is sitting under his rock, but he roams too.

My yellow watchmen when i had him also did that. but he only did when i fed the tank. After he got his share of yummies he would go back to the sand and hang out under his rock ledge... I ended up getting rid of him because i was moving at the time...
