Not bad Tony.
One of those things were if it's not sold/marketed in the hobby, prices are usually a lot cheaper.
Nori from a Oriental shop, or DE from a pool place, and lots cheaper than what LFS's price 'em at.
The SS ring should be OK in your tank, especially if you keep it up high, just to play it safe.

I notice they have stainless steel rings. Would that be harmful?

If they are a low grade stainless they could be; but I plan to use mine with the rim above the water line. Most powerheads and some pumps use a SS impeller shafts.

I plan on putting a rod across my sump and using it to hold up the handle on them. They will be higher up and away from the water. I guess I started a trend here.

Sounds like I'm a little late on this reply but oh well. When I started using filter socks I was using two of these type with the SS rings. They did very very well durability wise, I got about a year out of them and that was only with 2. Eventually though i saw that the rings were rusting; could see the rust bleeding through the material. Combine that with the slight beating they took in the washing machine and the rings started coming apart. No biggie though, I definitely got my moneys worth.
I got new socks from filterbag.com with some other locals and they ended up being $2.91 per bag shipped, not too bad. These come with a plastic ring that tends to flex as oppose to bend in the wash. I got 7 of them this time so I should be good for quite a while.
