I bought in a bucket and only opened when mixing. Otherwise sealed tight. I didn't powerhead the barrel, but bubbled and heated overnight before adding to tank. Think this is adequate?

This should be fine. The issue is when the crust starts forming inside the container. That crust is formed due to the hygroscoic nature of ASW components. The water attracted in such a way causes the reactions that form the crust. These same reactions are the formations of carbonate salts that ruin the ASW mix.

I used Oceanic for about 6 months before switching back to IO in the fall.
I had consistent pH + Alkalinity problems, despite topping up buffered RO. When mixing, I found 1.026 mixed to Ca 500-600, Alk between 6.5 and 7.5, Magnesium in the 1400-1500 range.
While I hate the Mag buffering for IO, CaCl is cheap and easy to add to boost IO to appropriate levels - and without the various other issues that appeared in my tank when I used Oceanic [had a bloom of dino's, lost all my coralline, Alk problems] - I went back to what worked well previously.
Funny thing is, when I mixed IO + Oceanic in the transition back ... it came up with `just exactly perfect' #'s in my testing - but I didn't like the idea of mixing so went back to IO, which I wasn't perfectly happy with yet always seemed the same.
IMO, if it ain't broke - I'd be wary fixing anything.
[FWIW, search for the recommended salts by sea-scope. Lots of problems when people switched to the recommended brands when that study came out initially]

I've also had a dino bloom using Oceanic Salt, but thought it was something else. May try switching back to IO to see if it goes a way. Coraline also has not grown much. HHHmmmm

There was a post on here or Reef central where someone had looked at what ratios to mix oceanic with instant ocean to get perfect ph, alkalinity, calcium etc. readings. I can't find it, but would be very helpful in this thread, anyone know what post I am talking about? I might be interested in doing this.

I have use IQ and reef cystals for years, But just lately I have went out and got Oceanic to try out. Like many here I don't know yet but seem fine. I will give it some more time.

I use it for fish and softies as it is sold as some chain stores up here near the sticks. Works fine for us, but we are not doing hi end stuff.

well after reading every thread and finishing a bottle of wine i think that i will stick with my table salt mixture. For some reason it kills everything in my tank.
My eyes are bleeding.

I have never used it, really can't say one way or another. I have used reef Cystals for years and IQ. I have been trying kent as a replacement for RC's. I will see if it as good as alot of folks I have talk to say it is, I can say the tank is doing good and coral are really doing very well. for the trigger tank I am using oceanic and like it for them. For the ponies i used kent also. I never really think alot about the test that come out . the results that is. It's like Gas only a few makers and a different container.

I started mixing it with IO (I know Tom), then I started using it straight. I like it much better than IO because of the Calcium, and Alk is easily fixed, but I'm switching to Tropic Marin Pro Reef because people say it's the best.(Got a good deal on it too! If anyone's interested, PM me)

I heard of people mixing these two before and I just happened to have some Io left and got a new container of Oceanic, I started mixing last week, I do not check my water, I go by what my tank is telling me, so in a few weeks I will see what it says about this salt mix.
