What Am I ???
Noticed this little guy earlier this morning... I started looking at him a little closer tonight and he started to move!!! Very cool, I think... I hope he's not a bad starfish (it's obviously a star, I think)... He is tiny, I lost a Linkia recently, think it was due to the acclimation, wish I had read more on that!!! Hopefully this little guy will grow into something worth keeping. Here's the pic:

it lookslike one of the Asterina variations. they are not always the easiest to say which is which.
most of the time they are fine ina reef tank, but they are an opportunistic feeder, they will go after any one that is just sitting there..
you might want to keep an eye on him from time to time. they will also multiplky pretty easy for you

Dave,
glad i could help.
there are a few variations of that type that have been reported to eat soft and hard corals, but not a lot. that type is also used as a feeder for harlican shrimp who love to munch down on starfish ( main diet)
how he came in to your tank? he coudl have scome in with any LR or coral. i had abrittle comeout of my LR that has been sittignin the one spot for well over 6 months ..
enjoy your new addition!

Thanks again Tim... I just did a little reading and now I'm a little worried about him (and any of his brothers)... I always wanted to get one of those beautiful harlequin shrimp but I knew they had a very limited diet... If they get out of hand, that's the route I'm probably going to take-hopefully they won't... All I've got is softies, but I love everyone of them!!!

I had one of these guys come in as a hitchhiker a few years ago, and now I have them all over my tank...but they have never touched any of my softies. It sure looks like they are eating coralline off the rocks, though.
