Wet floor.

Now that I have your attention, it is not a lot of water about a gallon. but every time I turn off the pumps in my tank, enough water siphons out of the tank that it overflows the sump. My tank is a 125 AGA with a center overflow. The return line are two drilled holes in the overflow, that return the watter back to the tank. Can I drill to small holes in the side of the overflow in the return lines to break the Siphon? I know water would spray out but it is in the overflow so not a big concern. My sup I be lave is 45 gallon acrylic sump. Maybe 3 feet long by 18-20 high by 12 inches wide. Any recommendations how to cure my problem.

just drill 2 holes in the plumbing returning the water back into the tank. Just drill it right below the water line so there wont be any water being sprayed outside the tank

Yep, some little holes, or a one way valve somewhere. The OTHER thing you can do is get a bigger sump that can handle all the backflow, unless you're draining half your tank.

The returns are above the water lines in the overflow, but below the water in the tank, If that makes sense. Any hole I drill I think will be above the water level in the overflow. I guess I could paly with the level in the overflow but I did not want to restrict it at all.

Couldn’t you just lower the water level in your sump 1 gallon, that way it won’t overflow?

You need the output of your reutrn to be just bairly under water when the system is running, this prevents much backsyphon, even if the it leaves water, then comes back in it is still going to syphon (think of a HOB overflow, or gravel vac)

First shot is a semi-full tank shot.
Second is a shot of the outlet, it is quite a bit below the water line.
Third is just showing the pipes in the overflow.
Forth is the sump.

How can I stop the flood's. I Guess the water level is high in the sump, is that the only way?

Your water level does seem high in your sump, if you say only a gallon spills over, you're not that far off from staying dry. You have LR in your sump? If you had a baffle for that skimmer you could save yourself some space for more water without having the whole sump full of water.

I agree. I would see about putting a baffle for the skimmer and running the sump a little lower. The only other option I can think of is maybe capping those holes and going over the overflow for the returns.

Actually I get no bubbles from the skimmer. The LR is there because I did not want it all in the tank, and Little luey has not come over to see what he wants from there. I have no were else for it to go at the moment.

Few people suggest it, but I run check valves on my lines as well. They work!
I have not had to replace any rubber o-ring in the first 14 months so far and no leaks.

Take a $17 power head and put about 4 feet of hose on it. and a $3,, 5 gallon bucket. when you shut the main pump off then turn the powerhead on to push the extra into the 5 gal bucket. and or one of those 29.00 reverable powerhead and mont it in the bucket. never have to move it again.
