warning, better check with the airlines before you plan on bringing back wet pets as carry-ons, a lot has changed this year, and you might not even be able to check it as baggage. This was an issue for several folks leaving MACNA from Pittsburg this past year.
I KNOW THERE ARE SOME OF YOU OUT THERE THAT WORK FOR THE AIRLINES, HOW ABOUT A RESPONSE ON THIS ONE?

I hadn't even thought of that Tom. Thanks for the heads up. I don't think I will have a problem driving from SC back to FL though would I? I am going to be at your house this year.
I would hate to get to the airport and not be able to bring them with me

We call that "one-way car rental"
I imagine that you could go to a local packer/shipper (UPS has these in most decently-sized cities now, at least the ones with airports) and have them pack it up for you and sent if back UPS, It's not like you won't beat the pakage home... ...I used to do this with my dirty clothes when I was traveling for two to three weeks at a time: get a box, cram all the dirty stuff in, and ship it back at ground rate from the hotel.
It's still a bummer that the airlines are worried about exploding corals or fish on planes.

One way from Ca to FL might get a tad expensive I considered the shipping. The only problem is timing. If the party is Saturday and I fly back Sunday, I may not find anywhere open to ship it for me. If I stay until Monday, they would probably ship it on the same plane I fly on

I just got off the phone with Delta Airlines and the policy is no live coral in carry on luggage. That came from Live Support via the website. I asked about checked baggage and they referred me to the phone. The phone conversation said that you could put it in checked baggage and it would be fine. Don't know what kind of temperature issues would potentially arise from it though. Cargo holds get pretty cold at altitude.
Thoughts?

All the coral in the US gets shipped via cargo on a plane, just pack it like you're going to ship it anywhere, it will be fine. See Antony Calfo's propagation book for more details on shipping corals.
At least you know now that you can check it as baggage. Just curious, how did you get in contact with them, do you have a number?

I started out with Live Support on the website. He told me I couldn't take it on the plane with me. If I had even thought about it, I wouldn't have had to ask. You aren't allowed to carry any type of liquid on the plane with you. Part of the new security measures. Last time I flew they made me throw my Mountain Dew away.
I asked about checked baggage and he referred me to Delta Cargo. After three run arounds with Delta Cargo, I ended up with Reservations (1-800-221-1212). The lady I talked to made me doubtful about it though. I am not sure she understood what I was asking about. I am going to try to call again tomorrow and see if I can find someone better able to answer me. It makes me skittish.
If nothing else, I can drive to the airport here in Jacksonville and ask about it.
Chances are, I am going to the TRT Bash and if I get lucky and end up with anything (hard to trade with nothing to trade with), then I will ship them home just to avoid any potential problems with airplanes and secuirty.

Chili Robert we need to talk on IM when you get a chance and catch me there. My work schedule just got twisted all around but I should be golden by July.
Still waiting on word from Alice and a few others, I thought if there are multiple northies heading down in a carpool, we could maybe meet up in Grants Pass and Drive down in a group

Well I don't show my CCW as photo ID no more, as for modeling clay, if I were flying with an infant I would check its diaper before heading the the cattle gate

Try it and claim you are an undercover security expert testing security and if they catch it, tell them good job
