wavemaker timing

Hello -- I was curious if anyone has an opinion about the proper interval timing on a wavemaker for a small (30-gal) reef tank. I have two Maxijet 600 powerheads on opposite ends of the back way pumping out at 45 degrees to off-center in the middle front wall of the tank. They are plugged into the wavemaker (Sun Wave) on a randomized pattern with a minimum shutoff of about a minute.

The inhabitants (a dwarf angel and some chromis) were a little freaked out by the change in flow from the constant blast of the two powerheads, but they seem to be taking to it. And the featherduster was never happier.

I'm still experimenting but the instructions that came with the wavemaker are pretty thin. Anyone have any experience good or bad with setting the intervals or otherwise trying to replicate real wave patterns in a tank this size?
