ive only seen 1 in use & its a bare bottom (no sand or gravel).if you have a large 120 or larger tank you may want to consider one..how large is your tank.

Anytime you can make the flow random and variable in your tank you are doing a good thing, regardless of tank size.

"Everywhere" tank flow is a good thing for both coral health and for not allowing detritus to collect everywhere. If done right....you can get the majority of the detritus up in the water column and eventually to the skimmer to be permanently removed.

However, a wavemaker on its own isnt going to accomplish this near as well as water routing devices that give you random and variable flow such as Oceans motions devices or powrheads on a controller. These are more important than wavemakers IMO, and should be installed and bought before a wavemaker. The wavemaker would just be icing on the cake.

I have 3 powerheads and 2 sump returns on my 110gallon. 2 of my power heads have a hydor water deflector and that causes a wave motion in my tank.
