wave maker question

Hey I have finally got my tank started, pix coming soon ... Anyway, I was thinking about putting a wavemaker on my PH and CLS. Is this a good idea? I'm planning to do softies mostly. Also I have read reviews about a couple different models and the reviews are usually mixed. One person loves it, the other says it sucks and stopped working after a couple of months. Plus is it important to get one that has a "soft start" so that you dont born out your other equipment? And lastly what "soft start" models are out there that people like?

Thanks again
