Watts Per Gallon and SPS

I've got 7.4 watts per gallon on my 60Gl Reef. I have lots of LPS, and Softies in the tank and all look great! I would like to get some SPS soon but want to make sure there will be enough light.

Any suggestions on SPS and Power Compacts. I will not buy MH lights, too expensive for this setup.

I think you will be ok, for most SPSs if you keep them mid to high up.

Test some freebe fras you get at meetings to make sure they will do well. I have seen awesome SPSs tank with only VHO, and the calcium and alk levels were always kept high.

It has to do with intensity, and really nothing to do with watts per gal.

Think of it this way. A coral used to growing 24" below a 400wMH and 10" deep in the water does not care if it's in a 20gal or a 200gal.

That said, there's a lot of monti's and such that are not light hogs. Some of the new deep water acros would more than likely do well too.

Just pick your coral.
