Waterflow advice
Ok guys - quick questions here....
For the 55 gallon tank, I am still looking at the seios and tunzes and trying to decide. What size should I get? The controller for both the seios and tunzes are only designed for the bigger sizes (eg seio 6000) - is this going to overwhelm the tank? And can the tunze nanostreams be plugged into a conventional wavemaker? (eg red sea) I know the seios can't...
Oh yes - current water movement: mag12 return via a SCWD (10 foot drop to the basement where the sump is), 2x MJ1200s and a 600 (I think) nameless brand...

Not sure on the Sieo or Tunze, but I cant imagine theres a lot coming from the Mag12 at 10 ft, esp thru a squid.
Have yo thought of upping your return pump? Just a thought

Well...all of the SEIO's can be restricted (by dialing them down - the output adjusts by rotating to block the input.). You could probably get 2 1100's and just dial them back if they seem like too much movement.

Most wavemakers won't handle that size pump, I would go with smaller seio's , The wavemakers do good with maxijets, Seio's but not for wavemaker, just to clear that up

I believe it does...anything including the 1100 and up. I don't use one though.
But I am not going to lie, the 1500 will create a sand storm from heck in your tank. So you would need to dial them back.
Don't get me wrong, I am in no hurry, I love the SEIO's. They are fine for me now. I am a little nervous about trying the wave 2k anyway. I have a 6' tank and I am not sure how well it would push water from one end to the other.

What kind of coral do you keep? Do you have sand? Tunze will come out with some nanostreems soon that will work on their multicontroller
The 1500's are huge pumps, so are the 6000 series,.. I'm really not sure if you want something taking up that much realistate in your tank.

Have just been doing some research on the Tunze website, and they do say that the nanostreams can be driven by the multicontroller. I have a mixture of a few softies (shrooms, a leather, some zoos), some LPS (hammer, a favia, a galaxea) and some SPS (acropora, montipora, birdsnest) and 2" worth of sand (that I am gradually renovating). Thanks for confirming my thought that the seios are going to be excessive....

Your probably right Wiskey. They are big...I guess I don't notice it so much in my tank.

Hey Sambo,
Not all the tunze nanostreams are controllable, so make sure you confirm that if you chose to go that route. I have a 6100 in a 58 gallon, and it's awesome, but I dont have sand. I imagine my impressions would change if i did have sand (which would likely cover everything but the bottom of the tank). Keep in mind though, that a tunze controllable 6000 series can be dialed back with a controller to keep sand storms in check. Good luck!
