water storage?

Can you store RO/DI water in a rubbermaid container? Forgive me for I am young ... well new to reefing anyway

Oh and when I store water should i add the salt, calcium and trace elements or wait until right before I use the water.

Thanks

as long as it is relatively sealed and dark i think it will last a month. you can do it either way. i would prolly mix it the day before you would actually use it. less chance of salinity changing.

i will try and see if i can find where i read that month thing.

I'm just curious as to what you would be adding other than salt? And why?

I don't know what else I would be adding. I haven't gotten that far yet. I wthought that I would have to add calcium at least. I thought that I heard somewhere that the toxins in the rubbermaid would be absorbed into the water. Now i will look for food storage containers instead.

Thanx

I believe the RubberMaid "Brute" line is FDA approved as food-grade. Can't say what the status is on their other stuff, i.e., "RoughNeck, etc....

I have been using a rubbermaid container for a few years now... It is great... I even have pvc pipe running from the garage into the house so I can fill the tanks without using buckets and such just gravity or a pump (if I want it to go faster)...

I would go out and get me a brute container. Made by rubbermaid and is food safe. This product is not made of recycled material which means no leaching of chemicals or silicates into your fill water. I too used an ordinary "garbage can" but always had cyano, or hair or something. Don't know if it was the can or not, but I love my brute and dolly.
