Water prep for a change

Just curious...

How long can a sollution of DI sit prior to putting it in the tank. Can I make it up a week in advance and cap it? I am trying to streamline things.

Yes, you can make it up and cap it for a week. I have done that many a time.

I mix my saltwater a week in advance. I have an 18 gallon rubbermaid tub that I have a Maxi-Jet 1200 and a 100 watt heater in. After if fill it with RO/DI, I add the salt and put the lid on it, not tight, just so the cats don't jump on it and fall in. A day or two before my water change I check salinity and pH and then adjust accordingly.

I also keep a 2 gallon jug full of RO/DI for top off and an old IO bucket full of RO/DI water for emergency. After my water change, whatever's left of the 2 gallon jug and the IO bucket full of water get dumped into the rubbermaid tub and I start all over again.

I've heard that its a good ideal to areate the water before adding salt to reduce any CO2 / carbonic acid that would use the alklinity out of the water.
