Water movement?

Water movement?

Okay why is it that i always hear that you want about 20x water movement in our tanks, but more with acros at around 30x, as this would obviously be a different amount of water moved in different sized tanks. Is it to do with food, or to keep the corals clean? So should i be looking for a certain amunt of water moved around the acros like 10,000 litres, or ?x the water volumn?

Also when working out my water movement i have two tunze streams that come on in surge sequence. They each move 7,000 litres an hour. So should i count this as 7,000 litresor 14,000 litres?

Arcos clean themselves by secretion (waste removal) and it's this mucus that needs to be "washed" off, if not they would suffocate. 10 to 20x would be ideal

On the streams, I would think that it would total out to 14,000 total, but then what do I know

well it doesnt really matter as all the acros look very good, it would just be for me knowing, as it would mean the difference of 21x or 38x? so ill go in the middle and say 30x water turnover.

yeah but what i dont get is why in a 10 gal tank would 200 gal clean the acro, and then if you had a 100 gal you would need 2000 gal? as surely the 200 gal would be fine?

It's all relative. It's not a hard and fast rule. In a 10gal or a 100gal it's relative, just more water to get moving

200 GPH in a 10 gallon tank is good water movement, tank is only 21"W x 10"D x 10/12"H.

Water movement is going to be both relavent and proportional to size. 200GPH in a 100 gallon tank won't even cause a ripple, tank is 72"W x 18"D x24"H (I could be off slightly on the dimensions). As the size of the tank increases, the amount of water movement is going to have to increase proportionally to get the same/equivalent amount of water movement/motion.
